Tehran, SANA- The Asian Parliamentary Assembly “APA” First Executive Council & Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs Meetings on Monday started activities with the participation of a delegation from the Syrian People’s Assembly headed by Chairman of the Agriculture and Water Resources Committee at the Assembly Adnan Suleiman.
During the meetings, Suleiman warned against the repercussions of the policies of some Western, regional, and Arab states that seek to destabilize Syria, noting that the aforementioned policies have already produced negative results on neighboring countries and on Europe, such as the waves of refugees and the threat of terrorists returning to their countries of origin from Syria.
He stressed that Syrians are anticipating resolutions on fighting terrorism that can be realized, and for Asian parliaments to work towards taking serious and honest steps to fight terrorism and protect cultural heritage.
Suleiman called attention to the crimes committed by terrorist organization in Syria, such as destroying heritage sites in Palmyra and targeting antique mosques, churches, shrines, schools, and gas pipelines, not to mention the abduction and murder of religious figures.
The APA meetings, which began on Monday in the Iranian capital, tackle cultural and social issues as well as fighting terrorism.
In an statement earlier on Monday, Suleiman said that the Syrian delegation will focus on the necessity of combating terrorism and of unifying efforts of the Arab, regional and international parliaments in this domain, particularly as terrorism is considered a big challenge and combating it is the responsibility of all.
He reiterated that Syria has suffered from terrorism which is backed by the US and the Zionist entity and their tools in the region, yet the steadfastness of the Syrian people side by side with their army and wise leadership has thwarted this conspiracy thanks also to the support provided by the friends of Syria, particularly Russia and the brotherly people of Iran.
