Arnous, Balkhi discuss boosting cooperation between Syria and WHO

Damascus, SANA- Prime Minister Hussein Arnous discussed Monday with the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Hanan Balkhi means of boosting cooperation between Syria and WHO to secure the needs of the health sector in the country.

Both sides discussed joint cooperation programs, and training and qualifying of medical cadres to keep pace with developments in international medical work, and transfer of expertise and techniques to Ministry of Health cadres.

Arnous noted that the health system is gradually recovering and will be able to overcome the difficulties it faces in cooperation with the organization and all international cooperation partners.

He pointed out the support provided by the government to the health sector through rehabilitating hospitals, health centers, and supporting pharmaceutical laboratories to continue production and meet the needs of local markets.

Arnous expressed appreciation for the WHO’s efforts in addressing corona virus and during the earthquake hit the country last year, pointing out the government’s efforts to address shortage in advanced devices such as CT, MRI, and cancer drugs.

For her part, Balkhi presented an explanation of the organization’s plan and programs in the Middle East region, which focus on scientific cooperation, training, updating information and data, benefiting from automation that helps develop work ,and providing doctors with scientific experience.
