China calls on international community to take urgent action to stop the war on Gaza

Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the international community to take urgent measures to stop the war on the Gaza Strip and ensure basic living conditions for the people of the Strip.

“China deeply sympathizes with the plight of the Palestinian people, particularly the people of Gaza, and condemns and strongly opposes all actions that harm civilians and violate international law and calls for an immediate ceasefire to stop the war and ensure basic needs of life for the people of Gaza” Xinhua news agency quoted Wang as saying on Monday in a phone call with his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad al-Maliki.

Wang called on the UN Security Council to bear its responsibilities seriously. He also called on the international community, mainly the major powers, to take urgent measures, commit to objectivity and integrity, and play a constructive role in calming the situation.

He noted that what the people of Gaza need today is security, food and medicine, not war, weapons and ammunition.

Wang stressed that the only way to resolve the Palestinian issue is “the two-state solution and the implementation of the right of the Palestinian people to establish their state and the right of return of refugees.”
