Polio vaccination campaign reaches 40 thousand children in Daraa

Daraa, SANA- A recent polio vaccination campaign had reached 140,316 children in Daraa province, exceeding the number of targeted children it previously set which was 125,260.

Mohamed Ghazzawi, immunization official at Daraa Health Directorate, said on Sunday that the campaign exceeded the target percentage due to the return of a large number of displaced children to their homes and the fact that it managed to reach a number of children in the villages of Saida al-Golan, Ghadeer Al Bustan, Codna, al-Asha and Albasaly in the countryside of Quneitra province.

The week-long campaign was launched in all provinces on 15th February, targeting children under five.

It is part of a series of vaccination campaigns that started in 2013 declared by the Syrian Health Ministry in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) following the emergence of polio cases in Syria.
