ABU DHABI, SANA- TASS Director General Sergey Mikhaylov on Wednesday presented to the heads of Arab news agencies a new product – the newswire in the Arabic language.
The presentation was held during the 49th General Assembly of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.
In his speech, Mikhaylov said that TASS Arabic News Service, which offers real-time news coverage of events in and around Russia as well as cooperation between Moscow and countries of the Arab world in various fields, was launched on November 1, 2022.
“Information on the Arabic newswire covers all possible issues in the field of Russian and global politics and economy, the military-industrial complex’s development, medicine, science, tourism and sports. In order to ensure uninterrupted work of the newswire, TASS created a special desk consisting of highly professional translators of the Arabic language,” Mikhaylov emphasized.
At least 100 messages will be published on the newswire every day, he said. Conventional distribution channels are used for ensuring the product’s work, for example, FTP and e-mail. Apart from that, subscribers will be able to use technological and cutting-edge tools for obtaining TASS information products – Terminal.tass.ru, which publishes the agency’s products related to various topics and geography, including news items, photos and videos every day on the round-the-clock basis.
TASS also offers its partners and subscribers newswires in English, Spanish, French and Chinese. According to Mikhaylov, TASS research has revealed that there is demand among foreign audiences for getting access to news items, reflecting Russia’s viewpoint in national languages.
The project on launching newswires in foreign languages was fulfilled thanks to “the competence and long-standing impeccable reputation of the agency in the professional media sphere, along with the impartiality and accuracy of the news items published by TASS.”
The TASS chief emphasized that the first results of the TASS newswires operation in foreign languages are encouraging. “They have entered the top most demanded products of the agency, and the subscriber audience has grown by 40%. Our newswires have evoked interest among the broadest audience – mass media, business and state structures as well as educational and scientific institutions,” he said.
FANA was created in 1975 and is headquartered in Lebanon. At present, the organization brings together news agencies from 18 Arab countries. Its goal is to strengthen professional ties among those agencies, ensure better news coverage in those countries and to help spread Arab news all over the world.
