New York, SANA- Syria and Pakistan have discussed means to enhance cooperation between them in the domain of educational development, including the development of school curricula.
That came during a meeting between Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa and his Pakistani counterpart, Rana Tanveer Hussain on the sidelines of the activities of the Transforming Education Summit currently being held in New York.
Minister Tabbaa shed light on the historic relations binding Syria and Pakistan and the constant cooperation agreements in the field of education and culture that were renewed last year.
Tabbaa talked about the Pakistan International School in Syria, which teaches according to the Cambridge certificate and which is considered one of the best international schools in Syria. It accommodates, in addition to Pakistani and foreign students, Syrian students and provides good educational results.
Tabbaa underlined the importance of cooperation between the two countries in terms of addressing the phenomenon of school dropout, calling for cooperation between the two sides to establish virtual schools to provide education for those children.
He tackled the difficulties imposed by the economic sanctions imposed on Syria.
For her part, Minister Hussain affirmed desire to strengthen cooperation with Syria in various fields, particularly in the educational sector, in terms of exchanging experiences between teachers, offering scholarships to students and benefiting from the experience of the two countries.
She called for forming a committee to discuss activating cooperation between the two ministries, mainly with regard to school dropout, as there are currently 22 million children out of school in Pakistan.
