Damascus, SANA- Syrian-Indian Distinction Center for IT (New Generation) was opened in Damascus on Wednesday with the aim of transferring the Indian technological development experience to Syria.
In a statement to the journalists,Minister of Telecommunications and Technology Eng. Iyad al-Khatib, said that the firm relations with India and other friendly countries resulted in reopening the center with its new generation after it was equipped with the equipment needed to train those who are willing to learn programming and cybersecurity.
During the first year, India would provide full support and cooperation through its experts who will carry out many qualitative training courses that are aimed at assisting the Syrian young generation to enter the labor market or perform optimally their job duties, Eng. Al-Khatib went on saying.
In a similar statement, Indian Ambassador in Damascus Mahender Singh Kanyal stressed that the center will make Syria a hub for information technology and a pioneer country in this field in the near future.
In turn, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Ayman Sousan, asserted that reactivating the work of the center reflects the deep-rooted historical friendship between the two countries and a continuation of India’s supportive stances to Syria.
In a televised speech, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said that the opening of the center is part of his country’s efforts to build potentials due to cooperation with Syria, expressing his country’s readiness to participate in the reconstruction process in Syria.
Nearly 700 trainees from the public and private sectors have graduated from the center, which was launched in Syria in 2010, after completing 43 training courses in the fields of programming, networking, and information security, but as a result of the terrorist war waged against Syria, the center closed its doors in mid-2012. In 2019 a MoU was signed to reactivate it and re-supply it with the needed by the Indian side in preparation to re-open the new generation of it.
