People’s Assembly approves laws, listens to Labor Minister’s answers

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill amending the law no. 42 for 2012 on organizing work at medical laboratories.

During a session on Wednesday, the Assembly also passed a bill amending the law on scientific offices for medical advertisement.

The People’s Assembly listened to the answers of the Labor Minister about employment and tenure issues and the youth employment program.

Assembly members asserted the necessity of reviewing the youth employment program and providing tenure for temporary workers who spent three years in their workplace.

Labor Minister Khalaf al-Abdullah said that the Ministry is only observing the work market, and has no control over employment or work exams in any of the other state institutions, clarifying that tenure is dependent on the vacancies and financial resources in each state establishment.

He also said that the new labor law which is being worked on will include the announcing of two central work exams covering all of Syria and all state establishments, with the first taking place in January and the second in July.

Al-Abdullah pointed out that the new law will take into consideration raising the salaries of workers in private establishments and will guarantee their rights in mandatory texts of the law.

He added that the Ministry will direct a memorandum to the Lebanese government about the ill treatment the Syrian workers in Lebanon.
