Tehran, SANA-The Aerospace Forces of the Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) have targeted the U.S. base of Ein al-Assad, west of Iraq, which houses U.S troops, with tens of ballistic missiles, in retaliation for the crime of assassinating Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and his companions.
Fars News Agency quoted the IRGC as saying in a statement that “it has fired tens of ground-to-ground missiles at “The airbase occupied by the terrorist and aggressive army of the United States known as Ein Al-Assad” in reprisal for the martyrdom of IRGC Quds Force Commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.
The IRGC warned the U.S. to avoid retaliating the Wednesday attack or else “it will face a more painful and crushing response”
The IRGC statement also warned “all the US allied states where the U.S. army has a base, any territory that becomes the origin of any hostile and aggressive action against the Islamic Republic of Iran in any way will be targeted”.
“We believe that the Zionist regime by no means stands aside from the criminal U.S. regime in these crimes,” the statement noted.
The IRGC also called on the American nation to pressure the White House to pull their troops out of the region to avoid further damage and not allow the U.S. rulers to endanger the lives of their military men through increasing hatred.
Iranian media outlets indicated that Ein al-Assad base was targeted with a second wave of missiles after the first attack with heavy missile strikes, affirming that all the fired missiles hit their targets at the American base in Iraq with high accuracy.
They indicated that Ein al-Assad base has been targeted with 35 missiles so far, and that the base requested a medical team without information on the number of injured.
The Iranian media outlets asserted that if the U.S. commits any mistake, there will be a third wave of missiles on the American bases, indicating that the U.S. defenses haven’t been able to down any of the Iranian missiles.
They noted that Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran Sayyed Ali Khamenei went to the Iranian operation headquarters to follow up the shelling of the U.S. bases in Iraq.
The Iranian media added that Iran has informed the UN Secretary-General and the International Security Council that it doesn’t seek to ignite a war, but it warns off any military adventures against it.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed that two American military bases in Iraq were subjected to intense Iranian missile strikes, while a US military official indicated to Reuters that American military sites in Iraq were subject to missile attacks, including Ein Al-Assad base.
In a relevant context, the AFP agency reported that US futures fell more than 1 percent, while the price of a barrel of oil jumped more than 4.5 percent after the Iranian missile response.
