Moscow: Occupied Golan is a Syrian land, Trump’s declaration a step towards destabilizing region

Moscow, SANA- The Russian Presidency on Tuesday warned off the negative repercussions of US President Donald Trump’s declaration on recognizing the annexation of the occupied Syrian Golan to “Israel”, affirming that it represents a new violation of the international law.

Sputnik Agency quoted the Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying  on Tuesday that “The latest US step regarding the occupied Golan is a flagrant violation of the international laws and the International Security Council’s resolutions, and it is clear that such a decision will have negative repercussions with regard to the political settlement in the Middle East and on the public mood of the political settlement in Syria.”

Peskov indicated that Trump’s declaration on the Golan is a new and a blatant violation of the international law by Washington.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova warned that US President Donald Trump’s declaration on recognizing the annexation of the occupied Syrian Golan to the Israeli occupation entity represents a step towards undermining stability in the Middle East.

Interviewed by Russia 24 TV Channel, Zakharova said “Russia’s stance towards the Golan is firm and it hasn’t changed and it considers the Golan a Syrian land.”

She indicated that Russia depends on the Security Council’s resolution No. 497 which affirms that the Israeli occupation’s decision to annex the occupied Syrian Golan as null and void and that it has no legal effect.

Zakharova indicated to the double standards adopted by the US politicians as in a time when they claim keenness on the necessity of adhering to the international law, Trump’s decision on recognizing the annexation of the Golan to the Israeli occupation entity doesn’t only contradicts with the international law, but it also breaches it directly.
