Syrian woman excels in candle-making in Sweida

Sweida, SANA-Motivated by an overriding passion for colors and the energy they emanate, Bassima Obeid from Sweida, 37, set up a small workshop to make candles in Baka village in Sweida southern countryside.

Speaking to SANA, Obeid explains that set up the workshop five years ago to make a living for her family which arrived to Sweida province after fleeing terrorism in Damascus countryside where she dwelled with her husband for some time as necessitated by his work.

Obeid adds that she honed the skills of making candles which she picked up during her previous work for a lady in Damascus to establish her own workshop. Her work has allowed her to fend for her family who support and help her in a manner that mirrors the familial bonds binding them.

Bassima performs her work with diligent dexterity, picking the suitable colors which fit all tastes and occasions, integrating decorations like roses to add a distinguished aesthetic touch.

Bassima says she finds pleasures in pouring raw materials into molds and cleaning and decorating the resulting designs before marketing her work, which has been so far confined to taking part in exhibitions and selling candle designs to customers.
