Vaccines for 7000 children delivered in Moadamiyet al-Sham in Damascus Countryside

Damascus, SANA – A shipment of vaccines for children has been delivered in Moadamiyet al-Sham suburb in Damascus Countryside.

Director of the Health Department of Damascus Countryside Abdullah al-Assali said in a statement to SANA that a specialized medical team also arrived in the suburb, in southwestern Damascus.

He noted that the vaccines are sufficient for 7000 under-five children.

The delivery of the vaccines was carried out by the Health Department, in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), according to al-Assali.

The vaccines include those listed within the Syrian National Vaccination Program as well as polio vaccines.

The delivery coincided with a national immunization campaign against polio, which kicked off on August 31 and ends later today.

Al-Assali pointed out that another medical team will arrive today in the eastern Ghouta, adding that vaccines for another 7000 children will be delivered in the area.

He confirmed that since early 2014, the Health Department has been able to cover all areas of Damascus Countryside province, including those which are difficult to reach due to the terrorists’ acts, with all children under five given the necessary vaccines.

In mid-August, the Health Ministry delivered 4000 doses of vaccines to Moadamiyet al-Sham which were given to children there. It also provided the medical center in the suburb with a 50 ton shipment of medical supplies in cooperation with the SARC and the WHO.
