Russian delegation meets ministers on reconstruction

Damascus, SANA – Russia’s participation in the reconstruction process in Syria was discussed on Sunday at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al
-Moallem and the visiting Russian delegation, headed by Deputy Minister of Energy Kirill Molodtsov.

The visit to Syria aims at holding constructive and comprehensive talks with the Syrian government to bolster economic and trade cooperation between Moscow and Damascus, said Molodtsov, affirming that Russia will continue to provide all forms of support and assistance to Syria to further consolidate its steadfastness in the face of terrorism.

Russia, he added, will contribute to the rebuilding of what was destroyed in the country to help in restoring stability and peace to it.

As expressing appreciation of the great role Russia has played in supporting Syria in the fight against terrorism, al-Moallem reiterated that Syria is writing the final chapter of the aggression waged against it and is heading steadily towards embarking on the process of reconstruction with the help of its
allies and friends.

In the same context, Water Resources Minister Nabil al-Hassan discussed with the Russian delegation prospects for cooperation and development of joint relations in the water sector.

Hassan reviewed to the delegation the projects that the Ministry is to going to start in the coming period, including establishing two water purification plants in the provinces of Lattakia and Hama.

Molodtsov, for his part, said the Russian side is ready to conduct studies and assess the situation of the aquifers, adding that as a first step in this regard, a team of technicians will be formed to determine the priorities and set up a comprehensive program.

He pointed out that the projects proposed by the Ministry is currently under study and that the appropriate decisions on them will be made at the upcoming meeting of the Syrian-Russian Joint Committee, due to be held on October 9-10 in Sochi city.

Earlier on the day, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Ghanem discussed with a Russian delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Energy, Kirill Molodtsov, means of cooperation with Russian petroleum companies working in the field of gas, oil and mineral wealth and means of boosting the bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of investment.

Minister Ghanem stressed the Ministry’s interest in launching investment partnerships with the Russian side in the field of exploring oil and gas, rehabilitating the standing oil facilities and establishing new ones, in addition to the investment in the fields of mineral wealth and benefiting from the technical advance of the Russian side as well as training and qualifying the working staffs.

The Minister pointed out to the agreements signed between the Ministry of Petroleum and the Russian oil companies, adding that the Ministry looks forwards to signing Memos of Understanding or work plans for the upcoming stage with the Russian companies.

Head of the Russian delegation stressed his country’s interest in expanding prospects of cooperation with Syria in the economic domains including oil through establishing partnerships between the two sides in the fields of exploration, qualification and investment in different sectors.

He highlighted the importance of these projects to be studied by the Russian side in order to be proposed in the Syrian-Russian Joint Committee, whose meeting is scheduled to be held in the Russian city of Sochi on October 9th and 10th .

The Russian delegation comprises the Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and a number of senior directors and representatives of Russian oil companies.

The delegation, that includes Minister of Industry, MPs and representatives and heads of a number of leading Russian companies, met on Saturday with Transport Minister Ali Hammoud, with talks focusing on cooperation in the fields of transport investments.

Its members stressed Russia’s preparedness to take part in several investment projects in Syria and pointed out that the delegation has a big agenda containing visions for developing work in Syria.
