Russian fighter jets launched from Hamedan base return to Russia after performing tasks successfully

Moscow, SANA-Russian Defense Ministry announced on Monday that the Russian fighter jets, which dealt severe blows to terrorist organizations sites in Syria from Hamedan base in Iran, returned to Russia after carrying out their tasks successfully.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a statement published by RT website that the Russian jets returned from the Iranian base to Russia after they performed their combat tasks successfully.

He added that the Russian Air Force and Aerospace will use Hamadan airbase in the future if situation on the ground in Syria requests that which will be done based on mutual agreements on combating terrorism.

In the same context, an Iranian source told Interfax news agency that Tehran is still ready to provide the infrastructure not only in Hamedan but also in other areas for the Russian aircrafts, noting that Russia not using Hamedan base by Russia at present does not mean that Tehran has changed its position on cooperation with Moscow in the fight against international terrorism.

The source pointed out that suspending the use of Hamadan base by Russia came by a Russian unilateral decision and is a confirmation that Russia has finished the combat tasks launched from the base.

The source also denied that Tehran might have prevented Russia from the use of the base or demanded a cancellation of the operation.

In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that there is no need to obtain the approval of the UN Security Council for using Hamedan air base in Iran by the Russian warplanes which participate in the war against terrorist organizations in Syria, explaining that it is a bilateral matter.

Director of Security Affairs Department in the ministry, Mikhail Ulyanov said in a statement to Novosti Russian News Agency on Monday that Moscow only uses the infrastructure in the Iranian air base, noting that there is no talk about supplying or selling any weapons to Iran.

Within the framework of war against terrorism, on August 16th, the Russian bombers directed air strikes against terrorist organizations positions in Syria from Iran’s air base during which scores of terrorists were killed and a large number of vehicles, armored vehicles, car bombs and depots were destroyed.
