Syria regrets dangerous escalation in Sweida, calls for handing over illegitimate weapon

Damascus, SANA-Syria expressed deep regret over the dangerous escalation in Sweida province, calling on all local sides to immediately cease violence, hand over illegal weapons.

“The Syrian Arab Republic expresses its deep regret and concern over the dangerous escalation witnessed in Sweida province yesterday, following the outbreak of armed clashes between outlaw groups from within the province and armed men from neighboring areas, claiming dozens of deaths and injuries, including civilians, and sparking panic and chaos among peaceful residents.” Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement Monday published on its Telegram channel.

The Ministry added that while the competent authorities sought to contain the tension and sedition and to protect civilians, the Syrian security forces came under armed ambushes and kidnappings, in a scene that affirms the presence of organized groups seeking to drag the city into dangerous security chaos and prevent state institutions from fulfilling their sovereign role in imposing stability and protecting citizens.

The Foreign Ministry calls on all countries and organizations to respect the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and refrain from supporting any separatist movements, expressing, at the same time, gratitude and appreciation to the friendly and sisterly countries that stood by the country in these difficult circumstances,” the statement concluded.
