Major blazes controlled amid ongoing Cooling in Latakia countrysideLatakia, SANA- Syrian Civil Defense  director in the coast, Abdul Kafi Kayyal, announced that the field situation regarding the wildfires raging in northern Latakia countryside since last Thursday has improved significantly, with many active fire hotspots now under control. However, he noted that these areas still require thorough cooling to prevent reignition.

Kayyal highlighted the extensive efforts carried out over seven consecutive days by firefighting teams from the Syrian Civil Defense, the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, and the Forestry Fire Brigades of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Aerial firefighting operations were also conducted using helicopters from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, along with Turkish, Jordanian, and Lebanese aircraft.

Despite soaring temperatures, the spread of landmines and unexploded ordnance, rugged terrain, and the absence of firebreaks—all of which contributed to the fires’ expansion—these combined efforts have played a critical role in containing the blazes and limiting their spread.
