Communications Ministry discusses support for startups companies in Syria

Damascus, SANA-The Ministry of Communications and Technology held a discussion session on Tuesday with representatives of entrepreneurial startups across Syria. The event aimed to bring together companies from various regions in a direct dialogue with government decision-makers to help shape national policies and programs through a genuinely participatory approach. The session took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus.

Titled “National Startup Summit: Toward New Horizons with Innovative Solutions,” the session focused on the current and future landscape of entrepreneurship in Syria, the challenges hindering startup formation, and the role of these companies in rebuilding and advancing the country.Communications Ministry discusses support for startups companies in Syria

Participants emphasized the need for fair classification of startups, solutions to operational obstacles, streamlined registration processes, shared workspaces to foster collaboration, an enabling investment environment, and a comprehensive database of active companies in Syria. They also called for clear, supportive legislation and improved internet and telecommunications infrastructure.

In his remarks, Minister of Communications and Technology, Eng. Abdul Salam Haykal, stated that Syria is entering a new foundational phase focused on empowering and supporting national startups. He highlighted the importance of setting operational standards for these companies, given their significant role in advancing economic sectors, artificial intelligence, and government automation. The minister affirmed the ministry’s commitment to establishing a robust digital environment with strong infrastructure and the best internet ecosystem in the region—benefiting both users and startups.
