Damascus, SANA- Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, met with Khalifa Abdullah Al Mahmoud Al Sharif, Chargé d’Affaires of the Qatari Embassy in Syria, to discuss opportunities for joint cooperation in emergency response and technical and human capacity building.

Both officials emphasized the importance of supporting advanced training programs for Syrian civil defense teams, particularly in emerging operational environments such as ports, airports, and oil facilities. These efforts aim to enhance readiness and enable effective responses to complex scenarios.

The discussions also explored the possibility of conducting joint field operations at the international level. Qatar’s International Search and Rescue Team, affiliated with the Internal Security Force “Lekhwiya,” may collaborate directly with Syrian civil defense units at response sites. This initiative seeks to facilitate expertise exchange and improve specialized operational approaches.

Minister al-Saleh highlighted the practical challenges facing his ministry, particularly the shortage of technical equipment and heavy machinery. He also presented ongoing efforts to introduce a professional safety certification program for industrial facilities as part of a broader national strategy. This initiative aims to promote safer work environments, mitigate risks, and protect lives and assets.

For his part, the Qatari ambassador reaffirmed his country’s readiness to provide support and enhance Syria’s response capabilities. He underscored the importance of developing sustainable solutions to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency responses under various circumstances.
