Beirut, SANA- The Progressive Socialist Party in Lebanon described the meeting between Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and former party leader Walid Jumblatt at the People’s Palace in Damascus as “friendly and frank”, noting that the meeting reviewed recent developments in the region.

“Mr. Jumblatt expressed his satisfaction with the Arab and international openness toward the new Syrian State, and considered that this openness contributes to strengthening Syria’s unity and stability and has a positive impact on Lebanon’s stability,” the party said in a statement Friday.

Regarding the regrettable events that occurred over the past two days, the party said that both sides “expressed their regret for the loss of lives and stressed the need for the Syrian state to assume its responsibilities in preserving the security of the nation and its citizens.”

“Mr. Jumblatt valued the Syrian State’s efforts in communicating and engaging in dialogue with various spectrum of the Syrian people,” the party said, emphasizing the important role of the Druze community in the State institutions and agencies.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Jumblatt thanked President al-Sharaa for arresting criminal Ibrahim Huwaija, responsible for the assassination of martyr Kamal Jumblatt and other crimes.
