Damascus, SANA-Ministry of Interior’s media office stated Tuesday that in light of current events and the spread of an audio clip that included an insult to the status of Holy Prophet Muhammad, “peace and blessings of Allah be upon him”, and the subsequent incitement, Jaramana area has witnessed clashes between groups of armed men, some are from outside the area and others from there.
These clashes left deaths and injuries, among them personnel of the security forces deployed in the area.
“Following this events, Public Security Forces units, supported by forces of the Defense Ministry, were dispatched to break up the clash, keep community peace, as a security cordon was also imposed a security cordon around the area to prevent any similar incidents”, the media office said in a statement.
The statement added “we stressed commitment to hold those involved accountable in accordance with law, alongside the ongoing investigations to uncover the identity of the person insulted our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him”.
