Deir Ezzor, Feb. 16 (SANA) Units of the Internal Security Directorate in al-Mayadin area in Deir Ezzor countryside, eastern Syria, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, carried out a security operation that resulted in the arrest of a wanted individual and the seizure of missiles and various weapons prepared for smuggling outside the country.
In a statement issued Monday, the Ministry of Interior said the operation was based on precise intelligence information, which led security units to conduct a raid targeting the suspect’s hideout.
The ministry confirmed that the operation successfully thwarted a plan to smuggle anti-tank guided missiles and anti-aircraft machine guns, which were prepared for illegal transfer beyond Syrian territory.
The operation comes as part of ongoing efforts by Syrian security authorities to combat arms smuggling and maintain national security and stability.
