Douma City marks the 7th anniversary of the chemical massacre committed by ousted regime

Damascus Countryside, SANA-On the seventh anniversary of the chemical massacre in the city of Douma, perpetrated by the forces of the ousted regime and resulting in the deaths of 43 civilians, including a number of children and women, thousands of the city’s residents, in addition to Syrian human rights and media figures, rallied in memory of this crime and its victims.Douma City marks the 7th anniversary of the chemical massacre committed by ousted regime

During a stand, held in Martyrs’ Square in Douma near the Red Crescent medical point in the agriculture building, which was also targeted by shelling, participants raised banners demanding the trial of the head of the ousted regime for committing this massacre.

They also affirmed that the security agencies of that regime burned and concealed the bodies of the victims in an attempt to obliterate the traces of the crime.

The participants in the stand, who gathered in front of an expressive artwork created by children depicting the fall of barrels loaded with chemical gases on the city, also held up pictures of the massacre’s victims. Additionally, members of the Red Crescent branch displayed photographs documenting the impact of the shelling that targeted Red Crescent ambulances, preventing them from evacuating the injured at the time.

Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, who participated in the stand, affirmed in a statement to journalists that efforts will not cease to hold the deposed president and all those involved in committing these massacres accountable and bring them to trial before international courts.

He pointed out that the government, with all its agencies, stands united with the Syrian people to overcome this difficult stage and rebuild Syria anew.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) had already established, through the report of its Investigation and Identification Team (IIT) issued on January 27, 2023, that the ousted regime was directly responsible for carrying out the chemical attack using toxic chlorine gas on the city of Douma on April 7, 2018, which led to the death of 43 civilians, including 10 children and 15 women.
