"Hackathon Syria" kicks off in Homs

Homs, SANA-Hackathon Syria (Hack for Syria) was launched on Saturday at Homs University hosted by the Information and Communications Technology Incubator of the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics.

The event is organized by the “Startup Syria” foundation with the participation of more than five thousand Syrian youth inside and outside the country.

‏The “Hackathon Syria”, in which more than 23 leading entities in innovation and media participate, in addition to strategic and community partners, aims to develop innovative technical solutions to problems and challenges in Syrian society.

Director of the Incubator in Homs, Hala Jahjah, said that the incubator’s participation comes as a strategic partner by providing logistics support and keeping pace with the activities, and being a center for providing technical and advisory support to participants.

The first day’s activities included introducing the partners and organizers who contributed to the “Hackathon Syria”, in addition to online discussions among them inside and outside the country.

“Hackathon” is inspired by the word “marathon”, an event in which those interested in technology and those with creative ideas gather for several days, where they work in groups to improve something or solve a specific problem.

The event continues until Feb 28th. It will culminate in a final Demo Day, where the top ideas will be presented to a panel of judges, with winning projects receiving support to take their solutions forward.

It is worth noting that the proposed projects are judged in six approved sectors: health, education, economy, agriculture, peace and social cohesion.
