A3+ Group Urges International Community to Back Political Transition in Syria

NEW YORK /SANA– The A3+ Group of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday called on the international community to support a political transition in Syria. The group emphasized the need for Syrians to unite their efforts in establishing lasting peace and security in the country.

“The group, which includes Algeria, Somalia, Sierra Leone and Guyana, calls on the international community to support the transition process and assist the Syrian people in completing a peaceful, sustainable and inclusive political process led by the Syrians.” Algerian News Agency (APS) quoted the political coordinator of the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the UN, the group’s spokesman, Tawfik al-Eid Qoudri, as saying yesterday during a Security Council meeting on Syria.

Qoudri stressed that the reconstruction of Syria must be a collective effort done by all its people who deserve peace, stability and prosperity, expressing the group’s aspiration for international donors to fulfill their financial commitments to support humanitarian aid provided to the Syrian people.

The group also called for the lifting of sanctions imposed for years on Syria, calling on regional and international actors to help Syria achieve economic recovery.
