Deir Ezzor, June 3 (SANA) Three siblings were swept into the waters of Euphrates River in Deir Ezzor.
The tragic incident left one child dead, another rescued, and their sister still missing as search efforts continue.
Al-Baraa al-Hamad, director of operations center in Deir Ezzor Governorate, told SANA that Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate had received a report stating that three children drowned in the Euphrates, east of Muhammad al-Durra Bridge.
Al-Hamad said that the rising water levels of Euphrates have significantly increased the risk of drowning in recent weeks, revealing that 22 incidents have been recorded, resulting in 15 deaths, the majority of them children, while the remaining victims were rescued.
The Civil Defense has renewed warning to residents along the banks of Euphrates River and nearby areas in Raqqa and Deir Ezzor governorates of refraining from swimming in the river, citing the danger posed by strong water currents and their increased speed due to the recent rise in water levels.
