Homs, Aug. 17 (SANA) Al-Tanf border crossing with Iraq has recorded growing commercial traffic since reopening in early April, with over 65,000 fuel tankers and some 10,000 trucks crossing toward Syria and onward to regional destinations, the General Authority for Borders and Customs said Monday.
The traffic carried approximately 329,000 tons of goods, reflecting the crossing’s recovery as a vital corridor linking Syria to Iraq and neighboring countries, supporting freight and transit movement, as well as transport and logistics sectors, according to a statement on the authority’s Telegram channel.
The authority said rehabilitation and construction work is ongoing at the crossing to upgrade infrastructure, increase capacity and improve operational efficiency for freight and transport movement.
Staff are working to organize truck and tanker traffic, expedite procedures and facilitate smooth transit to enhance overland trade between Syria, Iraq and the region.
Since reopening, the al-Tanf crossing has played a key role in supporting regional and international transit by facilitating the passage of trucks, tankers and goods between Syria and Iraq and regional countries, boosting road transport and strengthening trade and logistics links.
