SARC launches blood donation campaign in several governorates

Damascus, SANA- The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) Organization, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Blood Bank Administration, and with the participation of the local community, launched a blood donation campaign on Saturday in several governorates.

The campaign was announced under the slogan “Join the Challenge and Save a Life.” It aims to support the blood banks with sufficient supplies.

Head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Organization, Dr. Hazem Baqleh, stated that the campaign is a humanitarian initiative that supports thalassemia patients and emergency surgery patients.

Baqleh added that the campaign also contributes to solving the problem of the acute shortage of blood by reaching areas without blood banks or those far from them to ease the burden of travel for those wishing to donate.

Director of Damascus Blood Bank, Dr. Mohammad Ali Alousi, said that the campaign aims to reach 14,000 donors before the holy month of Ramadan through 78 employees from blood transfusion centers in different governorates.

In Hama, the communication and media coordinator at SARC branch, Youssef al-Ali, said that al-Alamein dispensaries in Hama and Salamiyah, affiliated with the Red Crescent, have been designated as donation locations, in addition to targeting local communities, in cooperation with the Hama Blood Transfusion Center by sending employees to collect blood.

The campaign is being carried out in the governorates of Damascus and its countryside, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Tartous, Lattakia, Deir Ezzor, Sweida, and Daraa through 35 centers, medical points, and mobile clinics affiliated with the organization, and will continue throughout the month of February.
