Al-Shaibani: Syria and Turkey have begun a new history, and will work together to suppo

Ankara, SANA- “The Syrian people have proven that they are against injustice and tyranny, and we emphasize the necessity of building a homeland that guarantees the rights of people and restores Syria’s effective and positive international role, far from the policies of the former regime that made Syria a hostage to colonial projects,” Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani said.

Al-Shaibani’s remarks came during a press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Vidan following their meeting in Ankara on Wednesday.

“Syria and Turkey have begun a new history, and will work together to support security and stability in the region. The common denominators between the two countries push us to work constantly on enhancing bilateral relations,” al-Shaibani said.

He stressed that Turkish-Syrian relations will witness political and economic development that will achieve prosperity, security and stability in Syria.

Minister al-Shaibani said “We are working to heal the Syrian wounds and unify external and internal efforts to build a country that relies on institutions, not individuals, and is committed to sublime goals that serve the Syrian people.”

“We are working to resolve the issues of the Eastern Region through dialogue and negotiation, and we expect tangible and positive outcomes in the near future,” al-Shaibani added.

He continued “The Syrian people will not accept division, and it is not logical to accept any institutions outside the central administration. This path is necessary to restore Syria’s sovereignty, and we will not allow to use Syrian land as a launching pad for any threat to the neighboring country of Turkey.”

Minister al-Shaibani added that the National Conference will represent all segments of the Syrian people, and will include approximately 1,200 representatives.

“For the first time in Syria, strategic decisions will be issued by the people, not by a segment and for the first time, the Syrians will feel that they are entitled to speak about their future and the future of their country,” he explained.
