Damascus, Oct. 26 (SANA) Syria’s Anti-Narcotics Department dismantled a network involved in drug trafficking and distribution in Damascus, arresting four suspects and seizing 36 kilograms of hashish and 600 grams of crystal methamphetamine, the department said Monday.
The department said the operation was carried out by its Damascus branch and resulted in the seizure of the narcotics, a scale and other materials used in drug distribution.
The seized items were confiscated in accordance with established procedures, and the four members were referred to the competent judiciary for legal action, the department added.
On Oct. 22, the Anti-Narcotics Department’s branch in Daraa province foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into Jordan using guided hot-air balloons.
The department said authorities had dismantled numerous drug trafficking and distribution networks in recent months, seizing and destroying large quantities of narcotics. It attributed the production and distribution of such substances within Syria, as well as their smuggling into neighboring countries and the wider region, to the ousted regime.
