Raqqa, Oct. 13 (SANA) Raqqa’s real estate directorate is working to process a backlog of property transactions accumulated during a suspension of services that began in 2013, while upgrading its facilities and procedures to improve services and safeguard ownership rights.
Director Abdullah al-Thalji told SANA on Monday that the directorate resumed receiving citizens and providing basic property services in July, including issuing ownership deeds and property registration records, preparing cadastral maps and processing sales, inheritance transfers and other legal transactions.
Informal deals raise risks
The suspension left a large backlog of transactions and files, placing additional pressure on staff after operations resumed, al-Thalji said.
The lack of official services also led some residents to buy and sell property outside official records, exposing them to risks of fraud, extortion and loss of ownership rights.
Upgrading services
The directorate is working with the General Directorate of Real Estate Affairs, under the supervision of Raqqa Governorate, to rehabilitate its premises, strengthen its legal, technical and administrative teams, and provide surveying equipment and tools to speed up transaction processing, al-Thalji said.
He added that staff had worked to preserve property registers and documents during the suspension, helping provide a basis for restoring services and protecting ownership rights.
Residents call for digitization and local offices
Residents who spoke to SANA called for simpler procedures and improved services. Abdul Karim Mohammed and Abdul Boujamal urged the use of modern technology to organize and digitize property records, while Ahmed al-Jijan called for branch offices in towns and subdistricts to reduce travel burdens and make transactions easier.
