Damascus, April 5 (SANA) – Christian denominations in Syria following the Western calendar celebrated Easter Sunday, marking the Resurrection of Jesus Christ with prayers and divine liturgies held in churches across the provinces.
In Damascus and its countryside, services were held at several cathedrals and churches, including the Latin Church and St. Theresa Church for Chaldeans. The sermons emphasized the spiritual significance of Easter as a message of hope, love, and peace, offering prayers for the safety of Syria and its people.
In Aleppo, a major service at the Al-Aziziyah Church was attended by official and popular figures. Bishop Hanna Jallouf, Apostolic Vicar of Aleppo for the Latins, highlighted that the participation of official figures in the celebrations reflects the deep-rooted national unity and social fabric of Syrian society. He expressed hope for a just and comprehensive peace to prevail throughout the country.
For his part, Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib noted during a visit to the church that the shared celebration of religious occasions underscores the bonds of brotherhood among all Syrians, stressing that through solidarity, the nation can overcome all challenges.
Similar celebrations took place in Homs, Hama, Lattakia, and Tartous. Worshippers expressed their hope for stability and prosperity, describing the occasion as a “new birth” for the country after years of hardship.
Security and internal forces were present across the provinces to organize the entry of worshippers and ensure a safe, tranquil environment for the celebrations.
