Damascus, Oct. 4 (SANA) Three earthquakes struck southern Türkiye on Sunday, with tremors felt by residents in parts of northern Syria, Syria’s National Earthquake Center said.
The first quake, measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale, occurred at 2:19 p.m. local time at a depth of 36 km, about 117 km northeast of Adana, the center said.
A second quake of the same magnitude was recorded at 2:36 p.m., about 139 km northeast of Adana, followed by a third quake measuring 4.6 at 2:43 p.m., about 106 km northeast of Adana.
The National Earthquake Center said the three earthquakes occurred in southern Türkiye along the East Anatolian Fault and were felt in areas of northern Syria.
Türkiye reports different readings
Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported different measurements for earthquakes recorded in the region.
AFAD said a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Saimbeyli district of Adana province at 2:19 p.m. at a depth of 7.99 km.
A second earthquake, measuring 4.9, struck the same district at 2:36 p.m. at a depth of 8.67 km, according to AFAD.
AFAD later reported a 5.2-magnitude earthquake in Sumbas district of Osmaniye province at a depth of 7 km.
No immediate damage reported
Adana Governor Mustafa Yavuz said no adverse reports had been received by the province’s emergency call center following the two earthquakes, adding that response teams were continuing field assessments.
Osmaniye Governor Mehmet Fatih Serdengeçti said authorities had coordinated with relevant institutions following the earthquake and that no adverse situation had been reported in the province.
Türkiye’s Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum said authorities were closely monitoring developments and assessing all reports following the earthquakes in Adana and Osmaniye.
No casualties or damage in Syria were reported in the statement issued by the National Earthquake Center.
The National Earthquake Center operates under Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management.
