Syria–Saudi Arabia explore rail locomotives, road transport expertise
Minister of Transport Yarub Badr

Damascus, Jan 21 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Transport Yarub Badr discussed with Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh bin Nasser al-Jasser on Wednesday avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation in road and rail transport, during a video conference.

The two sides reviewed the state of Syria’s railway sector and the challenges it faces, particularly the shortage of freight and passenger locomotives. Badr stressed the importance of exploring the possibility of supplying locomotives from Saudi Arabia that meet the required technical specifications, a step he said would help improve rail efficiency, expand services for citizens and boost domestic and external trade.

For his part, al-Jasser reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s keenness to provide various forms of support and to strengthen cooperation with Syria, working in a spirit of partnership to achieve mutual interests. He emphasized the importance of technical coordination, knowledge exchange and training between the two sides.

The meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts to develop Syria’s transport sector and enhance Arab cooperation in road and rail transport, contributing to technical knowledge exchange, infrastructure improvement, higher transport service efficiency and stronger trade flows among Arab countries.
