Damascus, Sept.19 (SANA) A Digital Arts’ Exhibition opened Thursday at the Syrian National Library in Damascus, bringing together young artists, designers and entrepreneurs working across a range of contemporary digital creative fields.
The exhibition features work and activities related to graphic design, photography, drawing, digital calligraphy, motion graphics and video editing, with organizers seeking to provide young creators with a platform to present their work and develop their professional skills.
The event opened with a visual presentation tracing the evolution of art from early engravings to contemporary digital media and examining how new technologies have transformed artistic tools and methods.
Syrian art meets modern technology
Speaking at the opening ceremony , Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdul Salam Haykal highlighted the longstanding relationship between art and technology in Syria, noting that Syrian artists historically combined artistic creativity with technical knowledge in sculpture, engraving, metalwork and textiles.
He said that relationship is taking new forms through digital art and artificial intelligence technologies.
Haykal said digital infrastructure, including networks, data centers and technology platforms, provides a foundation for developing education, services and the creative economy while giving creators greater opportunities to reach audiences internationally.
A platform for digital creators
Designer and trainer Iman Shabib presented an overview of her professional experience and discussed challenges facing designers, including establishing their professional presence and protecting their rights.
She said the Digital Arts Exhibition project seeks to create a platform where creators can showcase their work and develop their careers. Shabib also outlined participation procedures and services available through the project’s official website.
Freelancing and the creative economy
A panel discussion brought together Obada Tayara, director of the Technology and Digital Transformation Directorate at the Ministry of Culture; Shabib; and Mohammad Selwaya, founder and CEO of Mpire agency.
The participants discussed freelancing in Syria, challenges facing digital creative professionals and the role of innovation in design, photography and content production.
They highlighted the need for training and professional development programs to help designers strengthen their skills and communicate more effectively with clients locally and through digital platforms.
The discussion also addressed governance, electronic payment solutions and mechanisms to protect designers’ rights.
Participants said digital technologies are creating new possibilities for artistic production and visual expression, while providing young creators with opportunities to develop their work and participate more broadly in Syria’s evolving creative sector.
