Deir Ezzor, Jan. 27 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Transport Yarub Badr met with Deir Ezzor Governor Ghassan al-Sayd Ahmed on Tuesday to discuss the condition of roads and bridges and review rehabilitation plans aimed at restoring vital transport infrastructure in the province.
The meeting focused on accelerating projects to repair key transportation links damaged during the war, improve traffic flow, and enhance public services. The officials also inspected the Transport Directorate and addressed challenges related to vehicle registration and service delivery.
During the visit, the officials toured the al-Siyasiyah Bridge, one of the city’s main crossings, and reviewed plans for its urgent rehabilitation to ease movement for residents who currently rely on temporary routes.
In remarks to SANA, Minister Badr said the Damascus–Deir Ezzor highway requires immediate maintenance and safety upgrades, noting that discussions are under way to expand the road to two lanes. He added that restoring the Deir Ezzor–al-Bukamal Road is a priority to support regional trade with Iraq and Turkey.
Most of the province’s bridges were destroyed during the conflict, forcing residents to rely on river ferries and provisional crossings.
