Damascus, Sept. 5 (SANA) Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdul Salam Haykal announced on Saturday that Syria has officially joined the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) following the signing of its membership charter.
The signing took place alongside DCO Secretary-General Deemah Al Yahya, in the presence of Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Riyadh Mohsen Mehbash.
In a post on the X platform, Minister Haykal affirmed that Syria’s participation in the organization will be active, aimed at serving national interests, supporting digital growth, and opening new avenues of cooperation with member states.
Haykal commended Al Yahya’s leadership since the organization’s inception, describing the DCO as an influential international platform for cooperation in a rapidly evolving global digital economy. He highlighted the DCO’s recent visit to Damascus to review the ministry’s telecom and tech sector development programs.
On Sept. 1, Minister Haykal signed an agreement with the DCO in Riyadh to enhance cooperation in digital transformation, infrastructure development, technical cooperation, and expertise exchange.
Established in November 2020 by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, and Pakistan, the Riyadh-headquartered DCO aims to accelerate inclusive digital economic growth and empower individuals and businesses globally.
