South Korean envoy touts REVIVE project impact
Ambassador Gyusuk said the visit aimed to follow up on results from the first phase of the “REVIVE” project, implemented by the UN Development Programme with support from South Korea. The project supports early recovery efforts and improves living conditions in war-affected areas.
Gyusuk said the project has improved the lives of more than 400,000 people by removing approximately 570,000 tons of debris in Aleppo, Damascus countryside, Homs and Deir Ezzor, while also providing job opportunities, supporting work programs and enhancing mine risk awareness.
The ambassador noted that the project focuses on bridging the gap between emergency humanitarian response and long-term development by restoring basic services, improving infrastructure and preparing conditions for the return of displaced families and the revival of the local economy.
He added that wide prospects exist for future cooperation in energy, digital technology, education, skills development and infrastructure, contributing to stability and sustainable development.
The meeting coincided with the conclusion of the first phase of the REVIVE project, which included debris removal, rehabilitation of some public facilities and services, job creation through work programs, and mine risk awareness activities in Aleppo, Damascus countryside, Homs and Deir Ezzor.
