Damascus, June 8 (SANA) Syria’s transport minister discussed potential cooperation with Saudi engineering consultancy SETS on a series of planned infrastructure project, including key road rehabilitation schemes expected to be launched in the coming months.
During a meeting in Damascus on Monday, Transport Minister Yarub Badr outlined projects aimed at upgrading Syria’s road network , with a focus on improving connectivity along major transport corridors.

Among the projects under preparation is the rehabilitation of the M45 international highway, a roughly 470-kilometer route linking the Nasib border crossing with Damascus, Homs, Aleppo, Saraqib and Idlib.
Badr said the project would be divided into three sections and implemented through multiple contracts to accelerate construction and maintain technical standards.
The talks also covered rehabilitation plans for the Damascus-Palmyra and Palmyra-Deir Ezzor highways, including maintenance of existing roads and the construction of new segments in selected areas. The ministry said tenders for implementation and project supervision are expected to be issued soon.

The meeting also reviewed previous cooperation between the ministry and the Saudi firm, including technical workshops on traffic monitoring systems, truck weighing technologies and road management systems aimed at strengthening institutional and technical capabilities.
The discussions come as Syria seeks to advance infrastructure rehabilitation projects and attract regional expertise to support the modernization of its transport network.
