Damascus, May. 30 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Energy announced that technical teams at the Euphrates Dam have begun closing spillway gate No. 4 as part of operational measures aimed at managing water levels along the Euphrates River, amid continued declines in water inflows from Türkiye.

The ministry said the gate had been releasing approximately 300 cubic meters of water per second.

Consequently, total water discharge through the Euphrates Dam has been reduced to around 1,400 cubic meters per second. The measure is intended to gradually and safely restore water levels along the river’s course in Raqqa and Deir Ezzor provinces to their normal range.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir said in a post on X that water levels along the Euphrates River are gradually improving following technical measures taken at the dam, adding that authorities will continue monitoring conditions until levels return to normal.

Minister of Emergency and Disasters Management Raed al-Saleh also affirmed that operations’ rooms remain on high alert and are working at full capacity, after the closure of the fourth gate, the water level of the Euphrates River in Deir Ezzor and Raqqa will gradually decrease.

According to the Energy ministry, technical and engineering teams are continuing round-the-clock monitoring and assessment operations to regulate water releases in line with technical requirements, while ensuring the safety of water infrastructure and maintaining hydrological stability along the Euphrates River.

Field monitoring efforts are ongoing to implement necessary operational measures to protect vital infrastructure and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential services to residents in the region.
