Deir Ezzor, May 29 (SANA) Flooding linked to rising water levels in the Euphrates River has affected about 2,400 families in Deir Ezzor province, Syria’s Emergency and Disaster Management Minister Raed al-Saleh said on Friday, adding that water levels have since returned to normal and no new flooding has been reported.
Speaking to Syria’s Al-Ikhbariya television, al-Saleh said several areas of the eastern province had been affected, particularly river islands and agricultural land. He said no new fatalities had been recorded as a result of the flooding.

Several children died in recent days after swimming in the river despite repeated warnings issued by authorities, al-Saleh said.
The minister said President Ahmad al-Sharaa was closely monitoring developments and that government agencies were working to ease the impact of the flooding on affected communities.
On Thursday, al-Saleh chaired a meeting with field leaders from the Syrian Civil Defense and the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management to strengthen coordination and preparedness for potential flooding in Deir Ezzor and neighboring Raqqa province.
Separately, the Ministry of Defense said on Friday it had mobilized several units and relevant departments, in coordination with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, to support efforts to address the impact of rising water levels in the Euphrates.
Water levels have risen significantly in recent days along sections of the Euphrates in Deir Ezzor and Raqqa, prompting emergency teams, civil defense personnel and local authorities to reinforce earth barriers, monitor vulnerable areas and carry out evacuations where necessary.
