Damascus, May 21 (SANA) The Syrian National Authority for Missing Persons said Wednesday that specialized teams had begun investigating suspected human remains discovered during excavation work in the Mezzeh district of Damascus.
The authority said its teams, working alongside civil defense personnel, responded after remains were reportedly uncovered at a construction site in the Mezzeh Highway area.
In a statement, the authority said forensic teams followed professional procedures for documenting, collecting and recovering the remains in order to preserve evidence and maintain the dignity of victims.
The remains were transferred to a forensic identification center for further examination, the statement said.
It added that search operations were continuing at the site in coordination with relevant agencies as part of broader efforts to determine the fate of missing persons.
The authority urged residents not to approach or disturb sites suspected of containing mass graves, warning that interference could affect forensic documentation and investigation efforts. It also called on the public to report any suspected locations or information through official channels.
In recent months, the authority announced the discovery of several mass graves in different parts of the country containing the remains of people who were killed by the deposed regime forces.
