Damascus, May.3 (SANA) Minister of Information Hamza al-Mustafa reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to a new era of openness and accountability.
In a post published Sunday on X on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, al-Mustafa said: “As we move beyond the era of dictatorship and repression, responsible journalism is not a choice but a necessity for a successful transition.”
The minister stressed that a free press must also be professional and ethical, committed to accuracy, balance and the public interest.
Al-Mustafa reiterated his commitment to protecting journalists, encouraging independent and diverse media, and promoting a culture of responsibility in newsrooms.
He concluded: “Our progress is real, and our determination to continue on this path toward a freer and more accountable Syria remains unwavering.”
Syria advanced 36 places in this year’s World Press Freedom Index, ranking 141st globally out of 180 countries, up from 177th last year, marking the largest single-year improvement recorded by any country since the index was first issued 25 years ago by Reporters Without Borders.
