Damascus, May 18 (SANA) The Tal Abyad border crossing witnessed the passage of the first transit convoy arriving from Türkiye and heading toward Iraq through the Al-Yarubiyah border crossing, in a move aimed at reviving regional transport and trade routes through Syrian territory.
Mazen Alloush, director of public relations at Syria’s General Authority for Borders and Customs, told SANA on Monday that the operation was the first of its kind and reinforced Syria’s role as a regional logistics hub connecting neighboring markets.
Alloush said the convoy’s crossing comes within ongoing efforts by the authority to reactivate international transit corridors and expand regional transportation and trade exchange through Syria.
He added that the move is expected to support commercial activity and strengthen supply and logistics chains across the region.
“The authority continues to facilitate transit and customs clearance procedures while enhancing operational and logistical readiness at border crossings to ensure the smooth movement of trucks and goods,” Alloush said.
He noted that the measures are also aimed at improving efficiency and services provided to the transport and trade sectors.
The Al-Yarubiyah-Rabia border crossing between Syria and Iraq was officially reopened on April 24 in the presence of head of Syria’s General Authority for Borders and Customs, Qutaiba Badawi, , presidential envoy Ziad Al-Ayesh, Nineveh Governor Abdul Qader Al-Dakhil and Iraqi Border Crossings Authority head Omar Al-Waeli.
