Washington, Sept. 16 (SANA) The U.S. House of Representatives voted for a third time in favor of a resolution calling for an end to the war with Iran, in a move aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s ability to continue military operations without congressional approval.
The vote, held late Tuesday, passed by 220 votes to 204, according to The Associated Press.
The resolution calls for ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in hostilities with Iran. Previous measures of this kind did not reach the president’s desk, while the latest resolution must complete the legislative process before being sent to Trump.
Trump is expected to veto the resolution if it reaches his desk. The vote reflects an ongoing debate in Congress over presidential war powers as the conflict, which began on Feb. 28, approaches seven months.
Republican Representative Brian Mast of Florida, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Trump opposes “forever wars” and is seeking to end decades of hostilities with Iran.
The House previously approved a Democratic-sponsored resolution on June 4 calling for an end to the war with Iran. Tuesday’s vote marked the chamber’s third attempt to restrict U.S. military involvement in the conflict.
