Damascus, May 17 (SANA) Israeli forces advanced Sunday into the Wadi al-Raqad area near Jamlah village in western Daraa countryside, in what residents described as a new escalation along Syria’s southern border.
A SANA correspondent in Daraa said the incursion involved three tanks and two military vehicles, one of them equipped with a heavy DShK machine gun.
The forces reportedly entered the border area in Wadi al-Raqad and carried out field movements near Jamlah village before halting in the area for a limited period.
The deployment triggered concern among local residents, particularly farmers working near agricultural lands adjacent to the valley, amid continued Israeli military activity in parts of western Daraa countryside.
A similar Israeli advance was reported last Wednesday along the Wadi al-Raqad road near Jamlah town in the Yarmouk Basin area.
Syria has repeatedly condemned what it describes as Israeli violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through incursions into southern Syria, raids, arrests, land bulldozing operations and shelling attacks.
Syrian officials have reiterated calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Syrian territory, stressing that measures taken in southern Syria are “null and void” under international law and urging the international community to act against what they describe as ongoing violations.
