Damascus, May 13 (SANA) Syrian officials and representatives of international organizations met in Damascus on Wednesday to discuss implementation plans for the government’s “Syria Without Camps” initiative, aimed at facilitating the return of displaced people from camps to rehabilitated areas across the country.
The workshop, organized by the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), brought together representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the UN refugee agency (UNHCR), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Planning and Statistics Authority.
Discussions focused on long-term solutions for displaced Syrians living in camps, including infrastructure rehabilitation, institutional coordination and strategies to support returns and improve living conditions.
The event opened with a presentation documenting humanitarian conditions in displacement camps and the challenges facing displaced communities after years of conflict and economic hardship.
Participants also reviewed mechanisms for implementing Presidential Decree No. 59 of 2026, issued in March, which established a committee tasked with preparing infrastructure in damaged areas ahead of the planned return of residents.
Officials said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to support social stability and reconstruction in areas affected by war.
