New York, Jan.6 (SANA) The United Nations reiterated the need for urgent humanitarian assistance to Syria to improve conditions for displaced people in northern camps, particularly amid harsh winter weather.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that 90 displacement sites in Aleppo, Idleb, and Hasakah were affected, impacting some 158,000 people. Without rapid expansion of aid, health risks are expected to rise for children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.
Only $29 million of the $112 million needed for winter aid has been received, OCHA said. As of December 24, 16.5 million people across Syria remain in need of humanitarian support.
