Damascus, March 9 (SANA) – The Syrian Atomic Energy Commission (SAEC) and the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management discussed on Monday ways to strengthen national preparedness to respond to potential radiological and nuclear incidents.
During a coordination meeting held at the commission’s headquarters in Damascus, the two sides reviewed mechanisms for early warning, faster response procedures, and enhanced coordination among relevant authorities.
The talks also addressed plans to conduct training exercises and simulation programs on radiological emergency scenarios, as well as measures to strengthen the capabilities of specialized response teams and expand the national early warning network, including linking it with radiation monitoring systems.
The meeting was attended by Atomic Energy Commission Director General Mudar al-Okla, Assistant Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Ahmad Qaziz, and a number of specialists from both institutions.
The discussions come as the ministry works on developing a multi-sector early warning system aimed at reducing disaster risks and improving preparedness through data collection, analysis, warning dissemination, and coordinated response.
