Daraa, April 27 (SANA) Three sanitation workers were killed on Monday in the town of Busr al-Harir in eastern Daraa after an explosion caused by explosive remnants of war.
SANA’s correspondent reported that the incident occurred while workers were carrying out cleaning operations for the local council, when an unexploded object left over from the deposed regime detonated.
Mahmoud al-Zoubi, director of Izraa National Hospital, said the three victims, aged between 27 and 30, were brought to the hospital after the blast but had already died of their injuries.
He added that the bodies were transferred to the hospital morgue before being handed over to their families in accordance with legal procedures.
Explosive remnants of war (ERW) remain a widespread threat across Syria, particularly in areas affected by heavy fighting, posing ongoing risks to returnees, farmers and children.
The Syrian Civil Defense has repeatedly warned that such remnants pose a serious long-term threat to civilians, frequently causing deaths and severe injuries, disrupting livelihoods and hindering the safe return of displaced people.
