Damascus. Apr.27 (SANA) Finance Minister Mohamed Yisr Barnieh discussed with Chargé d’Affaires of the French Embassy in Damascus Jean-Baptiste Faivre ways to enhance economic and financial cooperation between Syria and European as well as international economic and financial institutions.

During the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters on Monday, the two sides addressed financing needs for development projects in Syria, the role of French and European institutions, ongoing cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the outcomes of the Spring Meetings in Washington, and support provided by European Union member states.

On Sunday, Governor of the Central Bank of Syria Abdulkader Husarieh also explored with the French diplomat means of strengthening financial and banking cooperation between the two countries.

The talks also addressed the reopening of the Central Bank of Syria’s account in France, given its importance in facilitating financial transactions and enhancing banking communication channels with European institutions.
